This is a good question. It should be possible to set up a link using Skype. The crucial questions are whether the St Vincent's Centre has the necessary infrastructure - either wi-fi or cabled - to allow Internet access from its meeting rooms, and whether there would be someone able to attend the meeting who understands Skype sufficiently well to run the call on the day. We shall have to ask, although it may be difficult to sort this out in time for the forthcoming meeting.

Is there any way for the US to conference call into this meeting, or even video conference it? Obviously, it is too costly to send a representative from the USA branch to a day meeting. How do we participate?

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Joe Farrelly. Even here, as far away as the US, we know all he has done for the ESBVM. May his memory be eternal!

Dear ESBVM,

So glad to have found you on the net! I am interested in the pamphlet "The Reformed and Mary". Many years ago I bought a book - Mary's Place in Christian Dialogue (a symposium I think) - but do not have it now. It contained an amusing story of John Knox as a galley slave along with his companions in the boat - being asked on arrival in Nantes - to kiss the statue of Our Lady as it was passed round! He took a different approach and said "Well Mary - let's see if you can swim" and with that threw the statue in the River! I told this when asked by a Church of Scotland Minister many years ago to preach on Mary at a Sunday Evening Advent Service in his church in Livingston. It was well received. Wonder if it rings any bells?? How might I purchase the pamphlet? Many thanks!

Fr Edwards was my history teacher at St Michaels College in Leeds in the 60s I would just like to say what a great teacher he was he inspired in me a love of history and how much I appreciated his efforts. I eventually became a teacher myself and have to say that I modelled my self on him aping his methods albeit in a completely different subject area and achieved considerable success myself as a result in a 30 year career - Thankyou Father

I used to be a member of ESBVM when I was a Methodist Presbyter. I left because I felt it was becoming so erudite it was in danger of becoming esoteric, with the result that not only would it have a limited membership but also its future would be in jeopardy. If we want Christians of all Churches to be more "ecumenical"- and even that is debatable! - then clearly Mary is a unique ecumenical focus. However most of our congregations are not academic intellectuals, and it is they who will be the real strength of ecumenism because in the main they are the Church. Maybe the priority of ESBVM should be a dimension of ecumenical mission and outreach. It needs spiritual fresh air and fresh expression to make it more aware of and sensitive to the majority of the laos, many of whom have never heard of ESBVM. If this emphasis was taken on board I would enthusiastically rejoin for I have a deep devotion to Mary. Best wishes, David.

I am writing a book at the moment on the trial of Mary Queen of Scots. I have found Fr Edwards' book "Plots and Plotters..." of great interest and use in my researches. He was a great historian and challenged many of the establishment's entrenched views on the Elizabethan period. His books on the Gunpowder Plot prove beyond any doubt that the plot was largely a concoction of Robert Cecil and his henchmen. Fr Edwards will be sadly missed. I will pray for his soul.
